IWA is an independent editorial publication: a place for durable writing, selected creative work, useful resources, reading, discovery, and editorial judgment.

The Independent Web Almanac is founded and edited by Nick Burchett, who has spent decades working in technology, publishing online, building independent digital communities, and exploring creative workflows. He is the author of fiction and non-fiction works and an active practitioner of AI-assisted writing.

Editorial decisions are ultimately the responsibility of the editor and are guided by the mission and standards of the publication: craft, clarity, usefulness, reader experience, and the degree to which a work reflects intentional human judgment.

The publication comes first. Influence, standards, anthologies, contributors, and other institutional work can only follow from a record of consistent publishing.
